Tangy Sweet Orange Coffee Scones

A simple twist on a traditional scone. Enjoy orange and coffee together in this delectable breakfast treat.

  • 2 ¼ cups All-Purpose Flour
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ā…“ cup Sugar
  • 1 Orange, thinly sliced, each slice cut into four pieces (only two slices needed)
  • 1 Orange rind, zested
  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • ¼ cup Brewed medium roast coffee, room temperature
  • ½ pint Buttermilk
  • ½ cup Orange juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 475 degrees. Grease and flour a cookie sheet or use parchment paper (easiest).
  2. Mix flour, salt, orange rind and sugar together. Blend well. Fold in butter, mix until soft and crumbly.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine coffee and buttermilk. Slowly add to flour mixture until well blended and dough is formed. Roll dough out on floured surface to form a ½ inch thick circle. Cut into pie slices and place on cookie sheet.
  4. Brush top of scone with orange juice and dust with coarse sugar. Top scones with 1/4 of an orange slice.
  5. Bake 10-15 minutes or until browned. Serve warm with your favorite Symphonia Coffee roast!

Notes

Optional: These orange scones would work well with dried apricots or chocolate chips. Serve with a warm orange marmalade!
